When should you notify beneficiaries of their inheritance?
There is not a right time or a wrong time, but nobody should inherit anything until the grant of probate or letters of administration (where there’s no Will) have been issued by the probate registry.
It follows then that the most appropriate time to notify beneficiaries of their inheritance is after the grant of probate or letters of administration have been obtained. It is a good idea to give the beneficiaries some idea of when they can expect to receive their inheritance and the reasons for any delay (for example pending the sale of a property).
Also, consider that it is not advisable to distribute any money until two months after the Trustee Act Notice has been placed advertising for creditors. This two month time period allows for any creditors to submit details of their claim against the estate to you.
